During my PhD (Prof. De Lorenzo´s group, Sapienza University of Rome) and my post doc (Prof. Hamann´s lab, Norwegian University of Science and Technology) I have been investigating the importance of plant cell walls in defence and stress related mechanisms. In my opinion cell walls are one of the most complex and fascinating plant structures. They represent the first barrier between plants and environment. Therefore their plasticity is essential to face external threats, like biotic and abiotic stresses. I intent to investigate and identify unknown signaling pathways involved in salt stress responses. My aim is to understand how salt-induced changes in cytoskeleton and cell wall structure are perceived in plants. Identifying new salt sensing mechanisms will help us in facing a major problem in creating crops with enhanced salt tolerance.
