Root of Schrenkiella parvula
In the Netherlands, we have an annual PhD Get2Gether where all Dutch students in plant biology come together to discuss science. Hongfei Li represented us with a 5 minute pitch where she explained her research on salt tolerance of halophytes (salt-loving species). She compares the model species Arabidopsis thaliana to its salt tolerant sister Schrenkiella parvula. She’s trying to find out why this tolerant species is able to handle twice as much salt. This approach is taking her to the root of parvula, where the salt enters the plant.
