Last month, our lab published two new reviews. Jasper Lamers, Tom van der Meer and Christa Testerink wrote ‘How Plants Sense and Respond to Stressful Environments’, published in Plant Physiology. The review describes the different sensing mechanisms for abiotic stress, showing how sensing and downstream signalling can cause different responses to drought, cold, salt, heat and flooding stress.

Around the same time Eva van Zelm, Yanxia Zhang and Christa Testerink published ‘Salt Tolerance Mechanisms of Plants’ in Annual Reviews of Plant Biology. The review gives an overview of cellular and physiological salt stress responses that could ultimately provide tolerance to salt stress. What can we learn from salt tolerant halophytes? And what advances have been made so far in making salt tolerant crops?
